Goals and Habits

What am I going to change and how am I going to change it?

The blog is my accountability to my plan. The key to big changes is consistency. Routines and everyday actions are the only way to build the future I want.

Health

130 pounds in 13 months, means 10 pounds a month, which is very doable. I heard a doctor say once that people who have more than 100 pounds to lose have to anticipate complete 90 minutes of exercise, 6 days a week, for the rest of their lives. So, I know I have to pull this off. The plan is two workouts a day, including a long, strenuous walk. I am also cooking at home, eating lots of fruits and vegetables, and drinking a lot of water or other low and no-calorie drinks.

I am planning to start the 75 hard challenge at the end of this school year. In the meantime, I found a 6-week weightlifting challenge I am going to start tonight.

Surroundings

The renovations are going to take a lot of steady work, working most evenings and every weekend. Slow and steady wins the race, but I think I have to flesh this out more to make it likely to be successful. We’ve been working very hard to get our field ready for the plants coming tomorrow. A very busy weekend is here, and it means a lot of work before we even start on my kitchen!

But the goals are

Finance

Besides a basic debt repayment plan, we started the jar budgeting method and went on a strict cash diet. It’s already working very well. I also keep expenses down by sticking to a grocery list and managing my meal plan. Finally. There are only 5 more weeks of school, about three more paychecks, so I have to make sure I work over the summer to help bring in that income to pay off the debt, pay for our renovations, and build up an emergency fund.

Career

I have been practicing computer programming every day on an app called Mimo, but I want to add a few hours a week on Khan Academy, and come the fall, something even more structured. Again, I need to make this more concrete, to make sure I succeed.

Personal Development

I need to read and write every day. These things make me happy and feed my spirit, but I make excuses. I am tired, I am anxious, or I am busy. But this is my one life on earth, and I need to read and write, even if it’s only for a half an hour. And frankly, these will provide a good foundation for my new career. I bet I can read 13 books and write 6 stories, maybe more.
